Website Biography Guidelines
Please! First take a look at the following instructions, then send your information by email to profile@islandartisans.ca;
Hello IAA Members
Here is your go-ahead email to update those IAA website pages of yours. I'll be listing exactly what you need to send us in order to update your page. Please keep in mind that the members who have volunteered to do this task are exactly that, volunteers. It would be wonderful if everyone could be patient with us as we learn, and if you could read this email carefully in order to send us what we need, and not what we don't.
Please look at my page (Wanda Shum) for an example of a finished Artisan Page, and as a reference for where certain things may appear on your finished page. The only information you MUST send us in order to have a link from the 'list of artisans' to your personal IAA page are your artist bio and one profile photo. All other information will be put up onto the site if you send it to us, so if you don't want your phone number on the site...then simply don't send it to us!
This is what you need to send:
1. An artist bio - around 300 words about yourself and your work. Please send this in plain text format if possible.
2. Email address, work phone number, website address.
3. Business Name
4. Category your work fits under (see the list of categories that appears on the pop-up menu when you click on the "Members List" button at the top of the IAA Homepage). For example, I chose 'Pottery", which narrows it down to just the potters if someone is searching for a potter.
5. A Media Description, which is a basic description of what you do with your chosen medium category. For example, my chosen medium is Pottery, but my Media Description is "Functional Ceramics", which is a description that I wrote.
6. Two Profile Pictures - #1 a photo of yourself (it will appear as a small photo to the left of the bio on your page) #2 a photo of a special piece of work (will appear as a large photo at the very bottom of your page if you scroll down)
7. Up to six photos of your work -These six photos appear in a 'filmstrip' to the right of your bio on your page. Please refer to them from top to bottom, 1-6, if you need to change only one or two photos at a later date. These photos should be sent in jpeg format of 100kb or less if possible.
When you send your email to profile@islandartisans.ca...
*Please title it "Your name, Website Update" ie. Renee Sala, Website Update so that the email is properly filed and worked on.
*Please send your info in point form from 1-5, as per the list above.
*Please attach your jpeg photos to your email in the order you'd like them to appear, starting with the two profile pictures, then followed by the 6 photos of your work. If possible, rename the files "Your name, Profile #1", "Your Name, Profile #2", "Your Name, Photo 1" , "Your Name, Photo 2" etc.
If you just need to update a thing or two, please be specific about what needs changing, and use the list above as a guide.
If you don't have a bio, or if you can't email the material, we can put it together for you; however, this route will take longer as I will need to send it to the volunteer member who has agreed to format this, have it formatted, have everything verified by you, then sent back to me before I can input the information. You will need to provide the following information:
- Picture of yourself at work or otherwise (photo or electronic photo).
- Background can be eliminated, if you wish.
- Name
- Born where (when, if you wish)
- Background (educational or other)
- Medium (stained glass, pottery, fabric)
- Influences (Westcoast, particular style)
- Published books or articles
- Do you teach; provide workshops? (what are they)
- Couple of photos (hardcopy or electronic) of your work with name of piece & size
- Website link if you have one
- Current and Upcoming Exhibitions (include location where work can be seen/purchased)
- Contact information (for prospectivebuyers)
Also, please provide us with your phone number or email so that we can ask questions or clarify information. All this should be mailed to:
Island Artisans Association
PO Box 5322
Victoria BC
V8R 6S4
We will verify the bio with you before it is published on the website.
Again, the email to update your bio is: profile@islandartisans.ca
