Wanda Shum is a B.C. grown artist who was formally trained in Electronic Communication Design at the Emily Carr College of Art and Design, she's been an independent artist for over 18 years with a variety of works to her name. All her work has embodied an attention to detail in form and function. Wanda's works are recognized for their bright and whimsical qualities.

Melanie took her first basket course in 1993 after she moved to Salt Spring Island. Over the years, she has taken many basket courses from local teachers and internationally-renowned teachers. She works with willow, cedar, tule, bark, and a wide variety of other plant materials. To be able to forage in the garden or on the roadsides and make something practical, creative or sculptural with what she has found is enormously pleasing to her.
