My name is Renee Sala and I'm a second-generation potter working at my craft in Victoria, BC.   I've been in and around a pottery studio my entire life, and while in art school at Camosun College in Victoria, I decided to pursue pottery as a career.  My work is a reflection of my influences, and of my surroundings.  I've spent a good deal of my time travelling throughout the world, mostly in Asia, which is indicated by the simple shapes and lines of my pieces.  The stamp-work I use connects me to my mother because all of the stamps I use were hand-made by her when she was still potting.  Warm sparkling browns and rich changing blues work together to express my love of the coast.

I have always had a love for making the home environment a beautiful place to be.  Making items that can be used in daily life is important to me as I feel that even simple daily events can contain beauty....and why not start with the dishes?

I currently have the role of “Website Administrator” for the new website for the Island Artisans Association.  I teach pottery classes to elementary kids in their schools and in my own studio in Gordon Head.  I also lead classes in long-term care facilities in Victoria, working with people who have physical and mental disabilities.  I plan to start teaching classes to adults in the fall of 2009, so please contact me with any questions!
