Judy Mayhew has a longstanding love of craft, though it has been a circuitous route to chandlery. Judy's primary interests have been in the fibre arts and include rug hooking, quilting and especially weaving.

Despite retiring early, a full-time commitment to craft was postponed after Judy and her husband, Wilfrid Worland, moved to BC from Toronto in 1999. For the next seven years they operated a commercial pepper farm supplying mid-Vancouver Island grocery stores and farmers' markets with locally-grown pesticide-free sweet bells and a wide variety of specialty peppers.

On selling their greenhouse, Judy decided to undertake a full-time craft business, making and selling high-quality, unscented candles. You'll see Judy's eye for colour and intricate patterning in her candles. The commercial line shows her appreciation of quality craft work, good proportioning, vibrant colours and fine hand finishing-characteristic of the output of the Qualicum Candleworks studio-which can be found in high-end home décor and gift stores in Victoria, Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton and Toronto. In 2008, her candles will also be available at Vancouver's Circle Craft and Oceanside's Kris Kringle Christmas Fairs, as well as several other mid-island Christmas Fairs.
