Born in Johannesburg, South Africa, Jo came to Canada in 1977. In 1983, he completed a Heavy Duty Mechanic apprenticeship, and in 1986, enrolled at the University of Alberta in the Philosophy Honours program, after which he went on to graduate studies in Philosophy of Art. In 1996, his wife, Peggy Brackett and Jo moved to Victoria BC, where they opened KilnArt Glass Studio in March of 1997.
At his studio, Jo mostly makes fine craft vessels, most of which are ToBs (Things of Beauty). However, he sometimes makes architectural glass panels and occasionally, lighting fixtures. When he doesn't make ToBs, the vessels are influenced mainly by Frank Lloyd Wright, Piet Mondriaan and some Jugendstiel artists such as Gustav Klimt and Egon Schiele.
Jo's ToBs are available at his studio in Crofton, as well as:
- The Avenue Gallery (250.598.2184)
- The Art Gallery of Greater Victoria (250.384.4101)
To view or purchase Jo's ToBs at other locations (Vancouver, Toronto and the USA), as well as special exhibitions, please see Jo's website, listed below.
