Laurie Kanester

Back to Membership Listing

Born and raised in the Okanagan, Laurie made Vancouver Island her home base in 1973, and now lives in Shawnigan Lake village with her family.

She attended Camosun College & Emily Carr College of Art & Design where she explored a broad range of medium, both 2 and 3-dimensional. Her popular business of hand-carved rubber stamps was stumbled upon accidentally when doing potato stamps with her three young sons. This eventually led to paper prints, collage, and fabric printing.

Sewing for over 35 years, she has always had a passion for fabrics, colour and texture. Now she produces one-of-a-kind accessories, scarves, bags, pillows, etc., from hand-etched silk-rayon velvet & satin, individually dyed for total uniqueness.

Laurie has participated in many of Vancouver Island's finest juried arts and crafts shows, wearable art fashion shows, as well as having work in numerous gallery/gift shops on the Island. She also gives workshops on request.

Laurie feels very fortunate to call this her "work".
