Bruce Vallance has been crafting pottery since he was a child in Calgary and still loves it! He attended university in Victoria and taught for ten years, but eventually returned to pottery full time, creating a long-term, successful business.
Bruce works with his son David and partner, Myrna Brown. Myrna graduated from the Nova Scotia School of Art and Design and is considered by Bruce to be the essential factor to running the business. David has been making pottery with Bruce for almost three years and is a continual source of ideas and perspective.
"Pottery that is relaxed and west-coast should still be professional and of excellent quality." Affordability and replaceability are virtues appreciated by collectors of his work. While new designs and glazes are added, traditional glazes remain in production.
Bruce enjoys travelling to locales such as India as well as staying home in Victoria, tending his lush, ever-changing garden. He paints in watercolours or acrylic and draws in charcoal. But what he really loves to do is make pottery that looks good and that people use.
